Creative Engineering
For this project my group and I decided to focus on natural disasters. Specifically Flooding. For flooding we decided to focus on one main problem which is levee failure. Levees are an embankment built to prevent overflow of a river. My group and I came up with many different ideas how we could help better levees or make the process of levees faster. From all of our ideas we decided to choose the one that seemed to work the best. Our solution for California was to plant Creeping Reygrass. For more specific information view power point.
We calculated the average cost per mile to be $10,000 in total.
- A 52lbs bag costs $6,500
- All of the labor costs $3,500. The labor includes five teams of three. One to "fluff" the dirt, one to plant the grass seeds, and one to immediately water the grass seeds. We would then have a team of five people come back five times over a period of three weeks to water the grass.
Throughout this project my team and I stayed on task and completed our work with the best of our abilities. We did a lot of research, calculating, recalculating, and experimenting, but we split the work up in order for everyone to have something to do at all times. We all the research, but I think we could have shared our research with each other more. However I do think that we did most of the research that was required for us to do in order to come up with a great solution. I also thing that we could have practiced a little more for our presentation, but I also think that we did well sharing all of our details to our topic and solution.
