Do it better
For this project we were assigned to choose one of our previous project and make our final result better. We were reminded that at the ends of every project we listed some things that we could have done to improve the product. We choose our groups and quickly decided to redo our solar water heater. My groups previous design was built inside of a box. We used copper wires and had to manually switch two bottles of water. Our new design was built inside of a tin pan. We did many experiments and found that covering the pan with black plastic made it heat up the most. We also placed six copper tubes inside the tin pan to heat up the water faster. Similar to our previous one we made a reflector to reflect sunlight into the water.
Content Throughout this project we mostly focused on the way that we placed our reflector. We calculated the angle using the angle of the sun at a certain time of the day at a certain location. For detailed information on our content click the button to the right. |
Reflection
This project was a lot of fun. It gave us a chance to improve ourselves and really learn from our mistakes. As a group we all came together and told each other what had previously worked well and what had not worked at all. We did a good job with communicating with each other. If we found that we had a problem we talked about it rather than ignoring it. We also did very well with getting done what we needed to do. We started off a little slow but as we were working we started working faster and before we knew it we had done all of our experiments. Throughout working on our experiments we continuously found new experiments that we needed to do, but this did not slow us down. Instead it gave us the chance to gather more data to prove our hypothesis. Throughout this project I worked well on helping the group stay together and on topic. I learned that tea can help heat up water and I also learned that you can easily see where light is reflected to by simply finding the brightest spot at the end of the reflector.
